Our Upcoming JUNE Featured Studio of the Month is in Orange County, New York!

Our upcoming Featured Studio of the Month of June is located in Southern Orange County, New York. One of the most beautiful areas in our country, this farming hamlet is called 'The Black Dirt Region,' since the soil is extremely dark and perfect for growing onions. When I first visited this studio, I was struck by the gorgeous decor and general feel of the space. Natural light floods in through vast windows that look out onto black dirt rows lining emerald fields. An almost endless sky eventually falls over a distant range of mountains. What a view for a drishte!
I recently had the luxury of experiencing a Sunday morning Yin Class here. Yin Yoga is a more passive style of practice that brings emphasis to the connective tissue of the lower body, including the hips, pelvis, and sacral region of the spine. It accesses areas closer to the bone as the muscles begin to fully relax and soften over the course of long hold times. Do not be fooled - passive yoga is not exactly easy! Even as a seasoned practitioner, I found great challenge in the extended hold times, often up to a few minutes long. Practicing in this way allowed me to go deeper, and take time to observe the breath and the various bodily sensations that came up in each asana. Through my practice, I learned to surrender to my witness mind, as I softened into a mini- meditation within each pose. The class was sealed in with a delicious, fully-supported savasana, complete with bolsters, blocks, and blankets. Ahh, blissful.
Dan and I are so grateful to be associated with this studio. Its logo, a bright red lotus with a turquoise hummingbird hovering above, displays the exquisite beauty and eye-catching aesthetic that we seek out for our Tshirts and tank tops. We cannot WAIT to unveil the studio name and logo to you, so please stay tuned! We feel so fortunate to increase public awareness of breathtaking yoga studios such as this one. We are sure you will agree that June's showcased studio is a shining example of beauty, creativity, and wonderful energy.

Real Yoga Studio Tshirts MAY Newsletter

Greetings from!

Since we began our endeavor, Dan and I have had the honor of working with many amazing people, and enjoyed visiting many beautiful studios. We are so heartened by the support and positive feedback we have received from everyone who has learned about the community we have begun.

When I think about the meaning of yoga, which means ‘yoke’ or ‘union’, I am reminded of the importance of community. As humans, we live through countless universal experiences, and so many of those experiences are enhanced by the sharing of them. Have you ever been in a yoga class with only one or two people versus a group of forty or fifty? Or did you ever feel the energy that is brought about by chanting OM alone versus repeating it over and over again within a large group? The resulting vibration of energy in a larger group is undeniably profound, and I am always astounded by its power. Those are just a couple examples that come to mind when I consider the potential and vitality that is possible through the channels of community.

So, as our Real Yoga Studio Tshirt community continues to grow, and more and more studio owners show excitement over being showcased on our site, the good energy grows and our passion for our shared project deepens. We feel so proud and honored to support, celebrate, and promote yoga studios all over the world. We truly believe in our mission.

As a yoga teacher myself, it was extremely important that our very first Featured Studio of the Month was the Breathing Room Center in Blairstown, NJ, because it is where I completed my yoga teacher training and earned YTT certification. Cheryl Paulson, the owner of the Breathing Room Center, has a giant and loving heart, and was onboard with the idea right from the start.

Just look at what she wrote in her own newsletter, Breathing Room Bits:

Attention Yoga Lovers:
I am writing to tell you some exciting news that comes from a former YTT student, Erin Meyers.

My friend Erin recently launched an online venture to promote yoga studios all over the planet - and the practice of yoga in general.

Each month one selected yoga studio will be showcased, with a uniquely designed T-shirt, photos and write-up on the site:

As a fellow yoga-lover joining this monthly subscription community, you will receive a soft, 100% cotton T-shirt each month, featuring the logo of that studio and its location. Here's the most exciting part: Breathing Room is the featured kick-off studio!

"I am SO honored to showcase Breathing Room Center for so many reasons," says Erin, "but most importantly, it is where I earned my YT certification. And of course, anyone who has ever seen the BRC knows it takes the cake as far as gorgeous studios go! Cheryl's radiant and positive energy is exactly what we envisioned for this project, and she was so supportive of our idea! Thank you, Cheryl!"
Believe me, the honor is all mine, Erin. Nothing gives me more joy than seeing the ripples that come out of Breathing Room's wave, and I am happy to support this project. So please do check it out! Go to the website & sign up to receive the debut T-shirt, featuring Breathing Room Center.

Imagine the surprise of finding a special tee from an ACTUAL yoga studio in your mailbox EVERY month! Join the growing members list & visit the site for free gift ~

Thanks to all, and thanks to Erin for your beauty, art & inspiration.

A Journey to California - Stepping Out of the Comfort Zone

When somebody tells you that yoga is bigger than ever in Southern California, they are not lying! So Dan and I recently made the trip cross-country to meet with the owners of our current Featured Studio of the Month, Black Dog Yoga in Sherman Oaks, CA. As someone who had never been west of Pennsylvania, I suddenly found myself flying on a jet and riding with Dan up the Pacific Coast highway, navigating the locations of each yoga studio we had planned to to visit. It was an amazing adventure to see such a thriving yoga community in the L.A. area. We made some new friends, and also hit Wanderlust 108, the 2-Day yoga festival taking place on the Santa Monica Pier. What a fun scene, and again, we met some very positive people. I was in a new place that was worlds away from the east coast; however, I felt happy and safe, immersed in a familiar community of yoga friends. I was met with the affirmation that yoga is yoga wherever you go.

On the last day of our trip. Dan took his first-ever yoga class. It was prior to taking the photos for our site and it was something he had wanted to try, especially now that he was the partner in a yoga business. But there were undercurrents of doubt getting in the way, and I know this is not uncommon. There have been many times when friends have asked me for my class schedule and expressed wanting to join my classes - and right up until the very last minute, they would have every intention to try yoga for the first time before changing their minds. I saw that Dan was no different as he wavered on the thought of trying yoga. After weeks of thinking and talking about it, Dan made the decision that he would take his first class in California. We tried to find the most beginner class we could, and we decided that the Basics class taught by Dani at Black Dog seemed to be the one. Dan did a great job finding his way through Dani's beautiful and challenging 85-minute session of long-hold, alignment-focused hip and hamstring openers. It was very intense, and more than once I was concerned that Dan might roll up his mat and head for the door. But he stuck it out and ended up really enjoying the surprise, delight, and reward that yoga often brings. All of his never-having-practiced-yoga-before-jitters were alleviated (and sweat out!) during that class, and now, like many yoga students, he is on his journey, and looking forward to trying another class soon. Sometimes the hardest part is just showing up.

Now that we are back home from California, it is a time to reflect. With my flying and traveling jitters behind me, I am once again safe in my house with my family and my regular, and rather unadventurous, life. It is hard to believe that just a few days ago, I was that far west of Pennsylvania! And Dan, a much more experienced traveler than I, had had his own journey jitters. Yet he stepped onto the mat and embraced whatever it was that was holding him back. I'm excited to see where yoga takes him. As for myself, I am in no rush to travel that far from home again any time soon, but it no longer seems out of the realm of my comfort zone.
